Costa Mesa Speedway June 14th 20

Buck Blair took home top honors by winning the Scratch Main Event on Kids Night at the world famous bullring oval at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa.

Blair, starting in gate three, got the best start and led previously undefeated Mike Faria into turn one. Faria controlled the inside line while Blair was using the outside to get past the former National Champion. Blair found enough traction to stay ahead of Faria on the back straight and through turns three and four. Blair dropped to the inside entering turn one to secure the lead. Faria maintained close quarters behind the leader throughout the race, but Blair never faltered and was first to the checkered flag. Faria settled for second, Jimmy Fishback finished third, Shawn McConnell was fourth, and Tim Gomez finished fifth.

The first of three rounds of heats kicked off with Fishback beating Greg Ayers for his first win. Faria beat Youth National Champion Jason Ramirez in the next heat. Round one finished with McConnell defeating Blair and Gomez.

Fishback started round two by beating Gomez and Ramirez. McConnell made it two in a row with a win over Travis Henderson. Faria and Blair ended the second round with a great inside-outside battle that resulted in Faria using the outside to win his second straight race.

Blair began the final round with his first victory of the night. Faria won the next heat while Fishback scrambled to finish second after starting from the penalty line. McConnell scored his third straight win in the final heat race of the night.

Faria led the first semi from start to finish with Fishback finishing second to also transfer to the main. Blair won the second semi and handed second-placed McConnell his first defeat of the evening. Gomez won the Last Chance to book the final spot in the main.

Bryan Buffington won both his heats and topped off his evening with a victory in the Support Main Event.

The Support B Main Event began with Aimiris Santana rolling into the tapes and getting penalized. On the restart, Mark Sincavage scored his first main event victory of 2008. Jeff Remington finished second, Rick Fritch was third, Jim Lavender finished fourth, and Santana was fifth.

Rocco Scopellite put together four smooth laps and held off Joey Holt and Chad Hoyt to score the win in the Youth First Division Main Event.

Samuel Ramirez led the Youth Second Division Main Event before finding himself under immense pressure from River McDougall. McDougall tried several times to get by the leader, but couldn’t get past. Ramirez thwarted McDougall’s attempt in the final corner and held on for the win. Major Davis finished third and Brad Painter was fourth.
